The Effect of Problem Based Learning Method on Mathematical Problem Solving Ability of Class VII Students of SMP Negeri 28 Merangin in 2021

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the mathematical problem solving ability of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 28 Merangin in 2021 who was taught by the problem based learning method was better than students who were taught using conventional learning models. This research uses a quantitative approach, with experimental methods and uses a "Posttest-Only Control Design" research design. This design consists of two groups, the first group is given treatment (X) and the other group is not. The group that was given treatment was called the experimental group. In this study, the group was treated with problem based learning, the group that was not treated was called the control group, and the group that was not treated was called the control group, and the group was treated with conventional learning methods. After learning is complete, the experimental class and the control class are given a test to see their mathematical problem solving abilities. Sampling in class VII SMP N 28 Merangin in 2021. With 18 students in the experimental class and 18 in the control class. The sample was taken using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a description test technique at the end of the meeting.
From the results of the final test data analysis, the average score of the experimental class students using the Problem Based Learning method was 16.06 with a standard deviation of 3.190, while in the control class using the conventional method it was 13.11 with a standard deviation of 2.784. Then the data were analyzed by t test, with a significance level of 0.05
