Hubungan Kemampuan Metakognisi Terhadap Kemampuan Membaca Cepat Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 34 Sarolangun Tahun Pelajaran 2022/2023

Abstract

Problems related to fast reading of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 34 Sarolangun, totaling 30 students, included a low interest in reading due to a lack of motivation to read texts. The purpose of this study was to find out and describe the relationship between metacognition ability and speed reading ability in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 34 Sarolangun in the 2022/2023 academic year. This research uses a quantitative approach with descriptive methods. The population is 30 students and the sample is 30 class VIII students. Data collection instruments use questionnaires and tests. Questionnaires are used to measure metacognition abilities and tests are used for speed reading skills. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistical analysis with the help of the SPSS V application. 18.Based on the results of the study, it showed that metacognition ability had a strong and significant correlation with the speed reading ability of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 34 Sarolangun. This result is supported by the simple linear regression calculation which shows the level of relationship between the two variables is 0.507. The contribution of the model testing the two variables is 0.257 or 25.7% while the remaining 0.743 or 74.3% is in the form of contributions from other factors that are not included in this study. The results of the t test for variable X obtained a value of 3.114 using a significance limit of α of 0.05. From the calculation results, compared with the test criteria T_count > T_table, a value of 3.114 > 1.701 is obtained, which means that H_0 is rejected and H_a is accepted, then the t-test hypothesis for the variable metacognition ability has a significant correlation with speed reading ability.
